species

fishes
of
the
genus
Salmo
and
allied
genera
.
The
common
salmon
(
Salmo salar
)
of
Northern
Europe
and
Eastern
North
America
,
and
the
California
salmon
,
or
quinnat
,
are
the
most
important
species
.
They
are
extensively
preserved
for
food
.
